EI0603. One unforgettable memory.

Before I begin, this post is dedicated to everyone in EI0603, a wonderful class otherwise also known as D3, that brought nothing but fun, peace, joy and laughter everyday. This post might sound very solemn to you, but I'll try to add some humourous parts in.

Everything typed in this post will be the truth and nothing but the truth.

As I always say with my three fingers on my right hand raised,
"I cross my heart and hope to live."

EI0603, or otherwise known as D3, was the class I was assigned to be in Year 1. The first bus trip to school on the bus 72 while I was eagerly waiting to meet new peeps, new friends, forge new bonds and perhaps, build a new family.

That day at the interchange, I saw Suhendi waiting for the same bus. He was my friend in my previous secondary school. During the trip to school for the orientation, I found out he was in the same course as me. Of course, having a friend you knew already would make it easier to know more people in the same course. Little did I know that other than him, there was Geraldine, who was also from my secondary school. The surprising part was that both of them were in the same class as me too!

Me, being half-blooded, might have difficulties making new friends as some Malays speak malay to me, which I rarely have a clue about if they speak too fast, or some Chinese, who might feel weird speaking chinese to someone who looks malay. Nevertheless, I decided to try and make some friends around the malay community in my class. Slowly, I got to know Mastura, Sashayz and Hidayat.

Mastura was known for her "interestingly" funny laughter, which spread smiles to those that heard it.

Sashayz and Hidayat were known for their way of being able to mingle around with some of the other classmates we weren't that close with, yet.

Each time we had breaks, the five of us would go have lunch at the south canteen. Our class would be scattered into groups, with each and every different communities and groups spreaded around the whole campus. During the orientation, I got to also know Eileen, Kenneth, Han Xiang, Chun Hwee, Kevin Chew, Joni, Hui Hui and Kevin Loke. Though we weren't very close, but we knew each other's names for a start.

After that 3-day orientation, school started. I spent the first 2 weeks with the Mas, Shayz, Yat and Susu. Definitely, every passing day made our bonds closer and closer.

As for the lessons, C# or pronounced C sharp, was definitely one of the things I used to hate going lessons for. The lecturer, Mr Simon Yee, or how each of us would call him as Simony as his name appeared on the timetable, explained how C# worked and tried to teach the codes to us.

Didn't know about the others, but I knew I definitely had a hard time understanding what the hell he was talking every single lesson.

One example was during the lessons, I kept hearing "Console.Writeline" and "Console.Readline".

Of course, I had no background knowledge on C# and I guess not everyone in class had that too. Sitting at the back with Susu, we were like playing flash games on the PC almost every lesson. Until when a C# project was assigned to class to do in groups of 2.

During the times in class, I tried to break the ice between Xiao Wei and the rest of their clique by approaching Geraldine often for help in understanding C#. Not to mention, I also approached Kenneth and Ken during that week. As I expected, no one understood what the lecturer was talking as the codes he was saying were like alien language to me. I got curious as to how I was going to complete the first semester if I couldn't do something that I was interested in.

I plugged in my 128mb thumbdrive and copied all the contents of that module into it. During the days, I spent around 2 hours everyday trying to understand what was C# and how the program worked.

The next week, I finally understood not only "Console.WriteLine" and "Console.ReadLine", but also what he was saying during the whole lab session. Of course, my foundation of logic was still not that good yet. I asked around for help and advice, learning not only more about C#, but also improving my friendship with some people in the class.

During week 6 to week 8, we had a new student that joined our class. I'd never knew this guy would be one of my best buddies that helped me out in need. Jie Sheng was 2 years older than me as he graduated from ITE. I noticed him the first time sitting on the stairs in a lecture. Then I gradually approached him during class. In the end, he gradually became our friend.

We also had another new student that joined our class. Shi Qin was from Taiwan. But he had no accent of it whatsoever. Really great guy to talk with. Lots of jokes and laughters.

By week 9 to the end of the semester, I had known the whole class. I also hung out more often with the chinese people, which consisted of Kenneth, Joni, Kevin Chew, Jie Sheng, Shi Qin, Chun Hwee, Han Xiang, Eileen, Hui Hui and Kevin Loke. By then, we weren't the usual silent group that didn't talk much, but the group that made the most laughters around.

I also got to know Ken, Jing Rong and Jun Hao during that time. Me and Ken used to share ideas on how this particular program could be done.

Of course, C# wasn't the only lesson that improved our bonds and relationships. The Computing Maths tutorial was really a fun time to get to know each other. My E-Maths was seriously total crap in secondary school. In Computing Maths, we studied A-Maths, which was even worse. But each of us taught each other on how to do the various questions and equations, not to mention some bits of copying.

Slowly and gradually, the first semester passed. I felt happy to get a starting grade of GPA 3.071 even though I didn't fully understand all of the topics.

But I knew for sure, it wasn't the GPA that made me really happy, but the new friends that I just made that made school compulsory to attend everyday.
"I go to school not to study hard, but to talk more and play hard."

By the second semester, we learnt about the basic fundamentals of networking by using programs such as Packet Tracer and Ethereal.

Our friendship became a family. No more groupings or communities. We were FFA, or free for all. This semester, I played really hard. Every 4 hour break that we had would mean either walking around in Ang Mo Kio, playing pool at Grassroots, the LAN centre at Tenchi Comics or Raiders and the arcade centres.

On the fact that the fundamentals of networking was somewhat, a rather hard-to-understand topic because of its confusing nature in configuring IP addresses, we questioned each other everyday on how to do a question in this module. Of course, I had only interest in programming and nothing else. Didn't really bother to read up on it till Week 14 to 15 where the semestral exams were nearing.

We managed to slip past that module and go on to the next semester. My grades did drop, but not by a huge margin.

In Year 2, semester 1, we would help each other if we did not understand on how to do this question of a particular module. We were already more than just friends, but a real family.

Every lesson in class would be filled with chitter-chatters and laughters.

I could remember how Eileen would keep nagging to me about how "interesting" her french teacher was.

I could remember how I finished Chun Hwee's C# project and the lecturer still found out in the end.

I could remember nearly every bit of all the fun we had together.

Year 2 semester 2.
The last semester to Year 3.

Networking became a tough obstacle for us. Mostly due to the new lecturer from a University.

Visual Basic was hard for some to cope. Due to the harsh environment. Someone cried in class because of the way the lecturer replied her question. I shan't mention who though.

The System Application And Control Project was one of the hardest projects ever to date to do. The specifications were simply, confusing. The codes were not fully given to us. I learnt how to get codes, the hard way. That is, by taking one of Jie Sheng's friend's program and spending 1 night reading his near 10 page long coding just for a single function.

Database Management was really the module that nearly delivered the finishing blow to me. Due to time constraints in dealing with the System Application And Control Project submission date, I spent and burnt the midnight oil, literally, doing out a database and a program for the Database project to be handed up on the following day. Simply put it, I chiong-ed a 15 week project in 14 hours non-stop. I got knocked out on the bus back home later on.

Networking project presentation was simple enough. My group, otherwise also known as the "Dream Team", had to do on the various internet protocols, DNS, DHCP, WINS and NAT. Each one in the team just researched on one topic and we placed the information together like a simple jigsaw puzzle. One of the presentations I've had so far that went with a breeze.

And now, back to the present.

A few of us have broken up into different paths.
Eileen, Chun Hwee, Han Xiang, Joni and Kevin Chew went into Integrated Logistics.
Mastura, Sashayz, Hidayat, Jing Rong and Shi Qin went into Programming.
Me, Jie Sheng, Kenneth, Ken and Geraldine went into Networking.

Even though we are separated into different classes, we still meet up sometimes while walking around in school, have lunch together like the old times and other stuffs like that.

For me, I feel its so hard to make new friends in the new Networking class. I just feel that D3 is enough for me.

The times, fun, jokes, riddles, laughter, troubles, obstacles and all we've faced in the past 2 years and 3 weeks are really, literally unforgettable.

We might not have anyone in our class in the top 10% of the cohort every semester, and literally EVERY semester, but I dare say the amount of dependence on each other we've had before makes our friendship stronger than the few other classes.

And I'm not shy to say this thought I've had since Year 1:
"I want to graduate together with you guys!"

A way to spend the night class, in another way.

This... is... so.... borranngg!!!

Currently, today's night class involves the use of the program, CitectSKADA. Simply to put it, its another type of program that allows you to virtually create machinery and how they run in a program. One example is like the machines that allow the brewing of beer.

And I'm definitely not listen to what he's saying now.

Because I know I'll just die sleeping if I listen to that "lullaby".

Ok, he's going over what we did last week now...

OMG ITS SOMETHING NEW!! But still gonna be boring.

Zzzzz. The only thing I dislike about slow talking lecturers. They got this super skill called "Lullaby". The speed at which they speak is godly slow to the point, the workstation infront of me looks like my bed.

Anything from the start of this post till now, was typed in class. Which then I specifically and specially tried to pry my eyes open with toothpicks to stay away and finish the practical. Now my eyes are O.O.

From this point onwards, this is typed at my home laptop. Which I still want to sleep, but the Queen Eileen wants me to blog more. However, I've decided to do a double post. So that's all for tonight's night
class!

Routers, Switches, Servers, PCs, Hosts. And a bit of Comm skills.

DAMN IT!

Can't believe... I got class tomorrow.
Well... Everyone has classes tomorrow...

What I meant was...
I cannot believe, I have classes from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm !!!

HELLO?!?!?! LABOUR DAY IS COMING?

And I still get tortured like this.

The best part though, is that I actually have classes from 10 am to 6 pm normally on Tuesday. With a 2 hour tutorial from 10 to 12. Followed by a gey 4 hour break, just for some stupid 2 hour lecture from 4 to 6.

Of course, the class petitioned for a new timetable. And the management shifted the lecture to start at 1 pm and end at 3 pm.

Great relief and lesser waste of humane time.

Then because of Labour Day on Thursday, my night class, which was actually on Thursdays, is shifted down to Tuesdays just for this week.

So my night class starts at 6:40 pm tomorrow. So yet again, another near 4 hour break from 3 pm to 6:40 pm.

Sucks.

Schools really have their ways of twisting the timetable.

Not to mention I need to type out a resume for Comm Skills, and finish up Networking Project & Case Study 3 before the end of this week.

Work is piling up like how a person with diarrhoea releases his bowels in the toilet bowl.

Ok... that was.. not really... very describing. But, you get the point.

Nana just went back for jungle warfare yesterday. Had a LAN session of CS before we sent him off at Pasir Ris. Friendly Fire was turned on and I cannot explain how FUN it was!

1 Arctic Magnum Sniper Rifle shot at your team mates would definitely be "fun". Although playing in those night maps did cause a bit of.. casualties. Good training of teamwork! Even though I would have preferred Dota for training of teamwork. It's like 1-2 months since I last played. I'm becoming nubbie gradually. Its like CS everytime we go LAN.

Not to mention I'm sick and tired of B11, B13, B16, B33, B41, B42, B43, B44, B45, B46, O2, O3, O4 and O5. Not forgetting the rapid pressing of the "," and "." keys for ammo.

I need to do double kills, some triple kills and a bit of being godlike!
(I'm still nub though. You'll most probby pawn my head for a few 10 grand of gold.)

I NEED TO LAN SOME DOTA!! PLEASE CALL ME OUT FOR MORE DOTA AND LESS CS!!!

Well then, back to another boring part of the topic.

I guess not many people know what I do in school now. With the exception of :
  • Walking around.
  • Looking at girls. (O.O Should have kept that secret. >.<)
  • Getting free air-con.
  • Eat, drink and slack in lectures.
  • Jokes, more jokes and even more jokes.
  • Riddles, more riddles and even more riddles.
  • Just plain walking around.
  • Still walking around.
For those that don't know, I'm doing Networking and Security. You know. Routers, switches, servers and those stuff. Speaking of which, I just finished a mock test question using this program, called Packet Tracer.

Apparently, this program is... the one and only program I'll be using this semester, except:
  • Windows Live Messenger
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Internet Explorer
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Powerpoint
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • CitectSKADA
Yeah. That's about it. I did feel it would be nice to understand what Haziq does when he has "Wacomming".

Heck, I don't even know what's that.

Basically, this program creates a virtual view of how a connection in a company would look like, to your liking / standards / requirements.

One example of how a completed network would look:
In the picture, the round objects are the routers, the cubes are switches, the long retangular box is the server and the computers are... Well, computers. DUH!

And to summarize what codings are done inside, here are a few pics.

When all stuff goes well, the routers tell you that a specific protocol is up and running as highlighted.

And the best part that you get at the end, is when the various PCs can successfully ping with each other.

And there you have it. Your brief tutorial on Packet Tracer!

How gey though. I'll get some alive and kicking pictures soon. Which is when someone gets me, or fund me a Canon D40 camera.

Back For More.... Blogging?!

ni yao li kai

dang zuo wo zui hou cai ming bai

Yet another song to continue... and... WHAT THE HELL?! Is it my sub-consciousness or my split personality that's forcing me back on blogger?

Ok fine. Its me. After like.... a few months?

No? How about 2 years?

Ok you win. Its been... 4 years since I last blogged! WOW! I'm impressed.

After reading on various blogs / livejournals, I decided to remake a blog again. Don't really know the reason though.

"And the reason is youuuuuuu~"

Crap. Still, its like 3 am and I cannot believe I'm typing this post instead of just laying some shut eyes. Well... I guess I need to give a summary of the past 4 years right? (Hell yeah, this is gonna be one hell long of a post.)

I guess you guys are wondering why my link is called the-living-potato. Because, I'm a couch potato. HAHA!! And I'm living. Extreme lameness. Yesh I know.

Since where I stopped, which was around secondary 4, which was O levels. Then I went to a polytechnic. And I really feel that macdonald's quote is pretty useful at times. The course that I'm taking is really "I'm Lovin' It".

Well, its programming. Who doesn't?

*Points at health & life sciences, business and design school people*

Except engineering people, cos they still study a bit of programming.

Not too much but a little at the design people, cos they might use programming for their drawings.

Back to topic.
Over the years, I've met new poly friends.
Very good, fun, nice, interesting, humourous, trustable, [Fill in good comments/remarks here] friends.
And yes, only those poly friends. No newer, no freshies.

Why you might ask?

Cause I'm an anti-social bastard who has no friends. YEAH RIGHT.

Its because, I'm too shy to make friends. Too lazy to sign up for OGLs and stuff like that. And, I always do things in pairs or more. Solo-ing sometimes gets a bit rough. But, once I get to know you, Good luck.

But, each time I look at Nesh's friendster pictures, it reminds me of pamphlets from TP. Cos, they really look like pics from there. Then I look at myself. And I say, WTF?

Oh well, for you guys who don't know till now, I study at Nanyang Polytechnic. Yep. Its around a few 10 or 50 kilometres to school everyday. Bus 72 rocks, 969 rocks only if it reaches when I'm at the interchange. Otherwise, it sucks. And it has never reached when I'm at the interchange. Therefore, 969, you officially suck.

Still, school's too far for me to even do "fun" stuff. Even though Nave did persuade me to join OGL, he didn't go in the end. =.='''

So, its been a fun 2 years and 2 weeks till today. I chose Networking as my path for my final year. And its pretty interesting and hard, judging from the fact that my previous semester lecturer only said this 2 words in every practical.

"Keep Typing."

Hell yeah. I guess I learnt 2 words for that whole semester from him. Still, I'm struggling to manage the stuff of configuring routers, switchs, servers and stuff like that. But the main reason I chose that path is... Hacking!

Yesh! DoS attacks, Smurf Attacks and those interesting items. I'm not gonna hack you anyway. Don't fear me! I'm still nub at this. =P

And its for a better "internet" online entertainment. Each time I search for a private server or some stuff, there are bound to be some stuff like :
Popups.
Adverts.
Spyware.
Those other harmful stuff.

So, its just for my own use.

Enough about school talk. School sucks, only on thursdays, that is.
Poly life, is way different from secondary school. Other than the uniform crap. Those friends I have there are really wayy too wacky. And when the project submission dates are nearing, we really start the teamwork. And during breaks, its just jokes, jokes and more jokes. Not to mention that large amount of vulgarities and hokkien slang I've learnt. No offence, its just for understanding what people scold nowadays. ^^

And you do realise, the amount of stuff I talk about school is longer than the amount of stuff I talk about my friends. Because, they can't be explained by words. Its the memories that I have of them, that can truly express who they really are. Or simply to say, "Fun".

Back to the Circle.
Nana's off to camp! Good luck recruit!
He just finished 2 weeks of his BMT and he's going for Jungle Warfare the end of this week again. That's another 2 weeks to miss him. Heh! But seriously, he's blacker than before. And that tanned colour is better than Sentosa's sun. From this we can equate:

Tekong Sun > Sentosa Sun
Tekong Sun provides a nice brownish tan, while Sentosa Sun provides, a nice red swelling body for skin to peel like a lemon's skin. Not to mention skin cancer.

The rest of us are just school, school and more school. 3rd year really bo pian but to study. But, we don't miss the occasional LAN gaming and stuff. I have to say... Charles and Nave improved at CS. Don't get too cocky yet. You still got Dota to go.

Haziq's just plain working, schooling, sleeping, eating and being a human.

Joel's is just plain working out, running, jogging, exercising, gymming, proteining, buffing, and definitely, schooling. Good luck for your IPPT!

Ganesh is probably having fun at school being OGL and doing his FYP. 9 to 5 is really... nice timing. Hehe! You don't have attachments outside though. Lucky bastard.

Me? I'm just sitting in front of either the school's computer everyday typing codes, codes, more codes, and even more codes, and way lot more codes to go; or just sitting in front of my lappy, doing the same thing I do at school.

With the exception of playing games and MSN and watching kamen rider kiva and bleach.

That's all for what's currently happening. Unless you want me to dig deeper, I'll have to write a new dictionary or perhaps, make a new movie called "Khalis' Life". You're gonna sleep on the first few chapters though.

Somehow, each time I go out.
Or walk around.
Or just plain slacking.

Can't help to notice couples, families everywhere.
And the only thing I've been missing out in these past 18 years.
Love.

Flashback from Hi-5?
"L-O-V-E! I love you and you love meeeee~"
Gey show.

Each time I see a couple, I smile. Don't know why, but its good to see happy couples together. Kinda cheers me up. Of course, I do get a bit jealous.

Can't help it. I somehow feel its hard to ask a number.
And its really funny sometimes to ask numbers from a girl.
Question is... What you gonna do with the number after that?
Comments please!

I'd prefer someone you know for like a few weeks or months before trying a shot at it.
But of course, I know I don't mingle much. So I'll take both options.
And I just realized. I need a reason to do anything and everything.
Then when I ask myself, "Do I need a reason to love someone?"

My mind went blank. No answers. Nada. Zip.

Haziq tells me. "NO!"
And I get laughed at for being single for 9 years. T.T (We don't count the first 10 years. Cause if you do, I'd be finding my soul partner in the maternity ward.)

But I do want to do one thing.
That is to protect everyone I love or care about.
